I spent my 2015 Spring semester in Washington, DC and it was an amazing experience! I’ve visited DC before briefly when I drove to Cornell from Houston and this past Halloween. Each time I visited, I thought it was a decent enough place but actually living there for a whole semester made me fall in love with DC.
The most rewarding of experiences was getting to sew costumes for the non-profit organization Only Make Believe DC. They create and perform interactive theater for children in hospitals and care facilities. I created three fun, brightly colored ruffled skirts for the actors. I am a firm believer that clothing can have a positive effect on people and it was extremely gratifying to provide a little magic through my work.
