I’ve been a work-study student with Cornell’s Environmental Health & Safety department since my first semester at Cornell and have done a variety of things for them over the years. I started out using SharePoint to help update and standardize some of the web pages, manuals, and forms that are needed in the daily operation of the department.
This semester, I was tasked with modernizing an old PowerPoint training into an online training using Adobe Captivate. My challenge was to take an outdated, plain, clipart-laden PowerPoint and rejuvenate it by making the experience shorter and lively with pictures solely from the Cornell community. This training is unique because all Cornell staff will be required to take it and it must appeal to a wide variety of people.
When I describe what I do for EHS, I always wish I had a visual aid to show. Below is a comparison of what I was given on the left and what I turned it to on the right. My goal was to keep the presentation interesting and clean but not busy. The slideshow at the bottom includes a few of the slides from course titled Cornell University’s Environment, Health, and Safety Basics.
